Danielle Choi

Hi, my name is Danielle Choi from Seoul, Korea. I am 13 years old and currently attending Seoul Foreign School. I have lived in Korea for only 3 years and before that, I was traveling to all sorts of different countries. I was born here in Korea, then when I was 4 years old, my family and I moved to Lima, Peru because of my dad’s job and we spent 2 years there, and after we travelled to Australia where I lived for almost 6 years. Now 8 years later, I am back in Korea, living in my hometown. Through the years, I have discovered so many passions of mine including dancing, singing and S.O.W which you could learn more about if you click on the Volunteer tab.

I was born in the Ulsan Province in Korea and my parents moved to live in Seoul, which is the capital of Korea. Around 6 months after I was born, I spoke my first word which was, 엄마, meaning mom in Korean, and surprisingly, my second word was not ‘dad’ but

앗 뜨거워’, which means “it’s hot” in Korean. My mom cooked a lot when I was a baby, and she used to say that to prevent me from touching the hot pots. Shortly, after I was born I was accompanied by the birth of my younger brother Seungmin. My mom told me that we used to be inseparable and I had become attached to my baby brother super early on.

Due to my dad’s job, our entire family moved to Lima, Peru, and spent approximately 3 years there. I was really young while living there so, the details of most of the memories have faded but I can still remember my school and the stained glass windows of my church.

After living in Peru, our family again because of our dad’s job moved to Townsville, Queensland, Australia. This is where I spent most of my childhood and made the most memories as an elementary school student. I lived there for a total of 5 years, and I would love to go back someday.

While living in Australia, we took a 6 month trip to the United States for a learning disorder treatment for my younger brother Seungmin. The program is called Brain Balance and through this program, my brother’s condition slowly became better and through this experience, I have learned a lot and accumulated passions and ideas that I have carried throughout my current life and nourished ever since then.

After leaving Australia, we moved backed to Korea and I started attending a Korean international school called SFS, which stands for Seoul Foreign School. I have been going to school there for my entire middle school life and, accordingly made many memories and discovered more about myself, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me.
